What is happening to JWN ?...So many topics not relating to Jehovah's Witnesses!
by koolaid-man innote the home page..wow how it has changed.. jehovah's witness discussion forumthe place to discuss anything relating to jehovah's witnesses and the watchtower bible and tract society... or just make new friends!.
many of the posts have nothing to do with with jehovah's witnesses and new ones coming on this board would be turned off by the content of many of these off color posts.
foul inappropriate language which is not proper or suitable for exiting witnesses to visibly inspect.

KoolAidMan:
For me - seeing that so many former JWs are finally having normal day to day non-cult discussions was especially meaningful.
I left 100% on my own - without ever reading any "apostate" website or book. However, I did come across your site every once in a while. If anything, I would say it made me think that most former JWs are bitter nutjobs, that just can't move on. Funny thing - that's what every current JW says about former "apostate" JWs. That people who leave, end up like the ones shown and heard on your site. Not that there's not a fair share of bitter nutjob conspiracy theorist former JWs on this site, but people leaving the cult need to practice interacting without thinking about anything JW. This site, in my opinion is a stepping stone to that. Look at all the registered users that no longer post. You think they're hanging out at your site? Thousands have moved on in life. For me they are much more motivating than any website - crazy or normal ones - has to offer.
As for those that get a bit "raw" after being suppressed by the JWs for so long - well I can't really say it better than the DUDE:

The demons are sex perverts according to the March 15th WT
by life is to short inok i finished listening to the stupid wt today while driving to work.
i got so mad listening that i truly cannot do it while i drive.
it is worse then talking on a cell phone as it just makes my blood boil.. the study article on page 24 and 25 is talking about satan and the demons.

That idea forms part of the plot of Seola (the novel that was the source of Angels and Women). The Golden Age in the 1920s also published articles suggesting this.
Awen: I owe you an apology. If the Golden Age wrote about it, then it is indeed a scientific paper. ;)

How many here have never been one of Jehovah's Witnesses?
by Spade inhow many here have never been one of jehovah's witnesses?
there seems to be a common denominator of former witnesses who accuse the watchtower society of being a false organization.
what they crave is acknowledgment that their way is the best way.

A better question would be:
How many people "not" here, have never heard of Jehovah's Witnesses?
Take a look at the bigger picture: Around the world there are very many different religions and belief systems. Billions of individuals have not heard of nor learned about your particular sect of Christian-Judeo beliefs.
For that matter, what do you really know about Mormons? Seventh-Day Adventists? Scientolgists? Christian Science? Quakers? Amish?
What do you know about Islam? Can you even explain the basics of Shiites and Sunnis? How many Hindu sects can you even name?
The point is - when you start gathering facts that are not tainted by Watchtower's painted world view, you see how irrelevant your religion is to most of the world. And it's not because, people have ignored the WT message. It's because the so-called world-wide message has never gotten to them. Despite the accolades of growth and numbers the WT loves to brag about, the truth is - even few Westerners know much about JWs - unless they or their relatives were once a member.
The fact is: you're part of religion that claims it has been commissioned to preach their beliefs to ALL the nations and in ALL the earth. At the same time, they can't even penetrate most of the Eastern hemisphere. And when they do, they still have to resort to using Bibles, translated by ... wait for it... Christendom's churches. (i.e. their competitors).
Let that sink in. You'd probably claim that the WT doesn't think for you, that you're not brainwashed, etc. Prove it - provide a rational explanation on why God's only channel to preach his message in the few remaining days before the end, cannot complete the task of preaching in all the world.

"May you have Peace,
I found this very interesting website while surfing the internet. It's a scientific paper discussing the Global Flood and how it occurred.
It does discuss the "canopy of water" and pretty much dismisses it as being the overall source of the Flood waters. It does however give reasonable arguements as to where the water came from and where it is today.
http://www.ldolphin.org/flood.shtml"
OMG - this site is more idiotic than the WT article of the OP.
Here's a quote "Some Bible scholars have suggested the Flood may have been triggered by the catastrophic breakup of a planet between Mars and Jupiter where the asteroid belt is now located."
I don't know whether to shoot myself in the face or down a bunch of crazy pills real quick.
Awen - this is not a "scientific paper" - please go to school before posting any more BS statements like that. - You make the WT look good. The canopy theory, as crazy and impossible as it is - has got nothing on the stupidity of this dolphin guy. Un-freakin-believable that somebody could come up with this horesh$t and even more unbelievable that somebody would buy into and even insanely more unbelievable, that any former JW would back this up.
I just lost a few brain cells while reading it. Everybody else, save yourself by not wasting any of your life's time on this.
Awen - seriously, if you really think that is scientific - please get help. Like psychiatric. Like now.

Fallout 2014
by wobble income 2014 even some dubs must start to ask wtf jesus has been doing for one hundred years, and there is a big potential for many to leave.. what more will the wt bull**it (writing) department come out with to keep the poor little drones feeding the hive, and maintaining the gb's rock-star life-style ?.
the over-lapping generation tripe will be getting on for five years old by then, surely "noo lite" will shine that makes the big a even closer or somesuch ?.
come on chaps, those poor saps in writing need your best ideas.

Ditto for Ding - or 'yeah - what he/she said'
The whole slow phase out of 1914 has subtly begun, imo.
I mean compare the live forever book to the bible teach book - particularly the chapters that explain 1914.
I think the Bible Teach book gets a paragraph or two and an appendix. - whereas the Live forever had a whole chapter.
I even think the latest OM book changed up the baptismal questions a little on the 1914 question. I think it was much more in depth in the old version and now I think it's a bit generic, more just like... Do you believe we're living in the last days and why?
What was dumb - was bringing in this silly overlapping generation stuff. That kind of made it semi-fresh again.
The other problem with a full phase-out though, is that the Revelation book will have to be changed quite a bit - along with the Daniel book etc.
However, the good news is that they really no longer have to dogmatically tie in prophecy from a day for a year type calculation. As they've done with 1919, it just kind of arbitrarily appeared. There is no time or times or half time to correlate to 1919. It just is the date that was picked. Kind of like the 2000 odd days in Daniel that start and end with a convention/Watchtower in the 1930s/40s. There's not a way to mathematically arrive at those dates even using symbology. They just picked them - put them in a one or two books, and never mentioned them again.
More and more, they say "where else will you go" - which basically means - 'it's true, we're wrong on a lot of stuff, but hey I didn't invest 40-60 years of my life being part of the wrong club - it just has to be right - please, stay.?!!'
It all reminds of the herlihy boy, with Farley = GB and Sandler = your JW relative/friend/elder:

The responsibility of the governing body
by Star tiger inhello friends,.
it has recently occurred to me the awesome responsibility of the seventeen or eighteen members of the governing body have for the lives of the six million active members of the jehovah's witnesses community plus interested persons and how easily they determine peoples lives and deaths with their ill thought out biblical reasoning, i wonder has any body ever sued them because of wrong advise!
i would be interested if any body knows of a legal example of this taking place!.

Actually you're ahead of many of us. The fact that you thought there were still 17 GB members and 6 million JWs - shows how out of touch you are. A JW might laugh at you, maybe even call you out like I did. But really, they'd be pissed - that someone who was shown the "the truth" at such a young age, never bothered to keep up with their precious org - it shows of how little they mean in your life.
I'm actually a bit jealous - I wish I was out of touch like you. I've been inactive for a not too long, but not totally brand new either.
Ah The dream! -to one day not know how many GB members there are - or even who they are - or how many pubs there are -
Ah the dream! to one day - really, really, deep inside myself, from the bottom of my heart, to really say and mean it, that I just don't give a damn.
Some day. Some day soon I hope.

The more you study at the university, the more you will realize that the Big A isn't coming. Keep it up. Remember this - the impressions that the watchtower made on you when you were so young were strong cult-oriented indocrtination methods. They were designed to instill fear into your impressionable mind.
The WT's deep unspoken hope is that you will give them a little time out of your day - all throughout your life - until one day -you're an old man or woman.
Even just a passing thought, makes them think they had a viable meaning to you. But the irony is, most of the world still has never heard of JWs nor the Watchtower. They've got claim to the most published magazine and one of the most published books in the world (the truth book), yet travel to the middle east or India and many other parts of Asia (China anyone?) and even South America - you'll be lucky to run into anyone that has any idea of this 'Made in America' Christian sect.
You can take heart by looking though these forums for a bit. There are many that have came here and moved on. If JW related thoughts come up in their mind, it's very rare. And even many more that have truly moved on, without ever even coming here. So don't let the WT waste your precious study time at school. Go on - make yourself into a more educated individual that creates a great happy life for yourself. That will damage the WT more than any lawsuit. Because they say leaving them will only result in a wretched, hopeless life. No matter how young or old you are now. Every day, from here on out, is a chance to prove them wrong.

The real WT deal on 1 Cor 5 -- shunning non-household family members.
by FatFreek 2005 ini don't want to hijack that thread with the british interview of an ex-jw who is now shunned by his mother and brother(s).
the interviewer then properly and fairly contacted a wt official who gave the party line answer.
those of us who have really studied wt references know that this lawyer-like answer actually follows wt teaching.

Excellent - I'm sure this has been touched on before - but it kind of reminds me of the blood fraction issue. Abstain from blood - should literally mean any part of blood. 'Quit mixing with anyone ..' should literally mean anyone. But now you can associate with a fraction of those who are disfellowshipped.
I've always focused on the 'anyone called a brother' part of the scripture. On how someone that no longer believes can't be called a brother, so why disfellowship someone that just doesn't want to be a JW? Doesn't make sense. But you're point adds more weight to the WT's word games. Thanks for the fresh outlook.

Welcome to the board.
And Welcome to 2011 - only around 7 GB members now - hasn't been 17 since the 70s/80s.
